Who is Emma Hartnell-Baker,
Founder of Hartnell-Baker Consultancy, Queensland?
Emma has led a very
interesting and varied life, consistently reaching the highest levels
of achievement in
whatever she has
set her sights on, with people often asking
"how do you do it all?!"
Emma says
"people, and the way they 'tick' is my passion, and I experience
great pride and satisfaction helping
others to
achieve their dreams- my
number one priority however will always be my son, Elliott, and in
being
the very
best mother I can be".

Emma was always a gifted
sportswoman, and as a child excelled at swimming and
tennis in particular.
She played to
National Level, and was one of the Uk's most promising
junior tennis players. Emma became a qualified tennis coach at the age
of 17 and
while studying at University
was asked to coach the top juniors,
including the Under
18 girl's squad, for Hereford and Worcester.
Emma
also
spent one Summer vacation as a Tennis and Swimming coach at a USA
children's Summer Camp-with Bunac.
Emma then set up 'Break Point School of Tennis' at the age of 21, employing
coaches
and setting up
tennis camps and coaching courses for children and adults.
During her final year at University she spent 3 months on a small island
in the Caribbean,
and with the support of
local government set up a Summer School for children aged 3-8 years.

During University Emma
specialised in Physical Education and was disappointed to find
that there
were no
Life Saving Award courses on offer- and being a strong swimmer
she was keen to improve her swim teaching experience and qualifications.
Not one to
moan and do nothing, she approached the RLSS (Royal Life Saving
Society) and taught the course
herself- successfully teaching over 90 students the RLSS Bronze Medallion
Life Saving Award, with a 10% success rate.
As a qualified ASA Swim teacher, Emma has offered swimming
, diving and life saving
courses to children and
adults in a variety of venues. Emma's natural teaching ability
and patience, and affinity with children
ensure that even the very youngest, and most
nervous children (and adults)
learn very quickly.
On her return to Nottingham,
after achieving a Bachelor of Education (Primary) with
Honours (2:1) with
a specialism
in The Early Years (3-8) she secured her first teaching post,
as a Reception/
Year One Teacher. While teaching full
time she also found the time
(and
energy!) to set up tennis camps and coaching courses for children and
adults, and also
the Allsports Club- a Saturday club for children, enabling
them to experience a variety of
different sports each week.
Emma was also a County Coach for Nottingham, coaching Nottingham's best
tennis juniors.
Interestingly, Emma also appeared in at least one Nike catalogue
as Monica
Seles' body double!
Not content with a secure
teaching position, Emma left teaching after only one year to
set up her
first
children's Nursery School, with her mother (also a teacher) and within
2 years had set up their second! Emma successfully managed a staff team
of over 30 part and
full time staff, and built a reputation of providing
quality childcare and
education on a 'home from home' environment, for children aged from 6
weeks to 8 years.
Emma also pursued her love
of dogs and undertook behaviour training, quickly made
a name for herself
in Nottingham,
helping supposedly 'uncontrollable and untrainable' dogs become happy,
sociable and well behaved! Emma particularly
loves Border Collies, and is a specialist in BC behaviour- before the
birth of her
son Emma would foster (and then re-home)
up to 8 dogs in her own home at any one time, to prevent them being destroyed.
Just before leaving the UK Emma was asked to answer questions on a call-in show
for BBC Radio Nottingham and was
so popular she was asked to come back again
- however warmer climates called!.
Emma was asked in 1996 to become involved in a Mens' ATP Tour Event (Pre-Wimbledon)
training over 70 teenagers
to work on court with the world's top tennis players.
Emma set up 'Ball
Kids UK' and for nine years developed
a reputation of providing tournaments - including Junior Nationals and the Davis Cup
- with only the very best
ball girl
and boy teams - with standards consistently
high both on and off court. in 2005 she turned over the position to her
assistant
Sally- who had been one
of her first ball girls some nine years earlier!
Emma has a natural understanding
and interest in behaviour, with behaviour at her nursery schools of an
exceptionally high standard- the emphasis being on mutual respect and
good communication. She began offering child
behaviour advice to parents and teachers in 2001, as 'Child Behaviour
Strategies' and also decided to become qualified
as a Life Coach. Life coaching has been one of her main passions ever
since!
The birth of Emma's son,
Elliott, was both unexpected and also very exciting. Emma
decided that
although
she had not planned for this interesting life-twist, she would sell the
nursery schools, and enjoy some time
travelling and also dedicating herself to being a
happy mother!
Emma and Elliott spent a considerable amount of time in Barbados- however
and
after only a short time Emma
became 'itchy' in her non-working mother role, as she saw
a need for a
quality 'Barbados on a shoestring budget'
travel service & web site. She sold her Shoestring Barbados web site about
2 years later, and it continues to be one
of the highest ranked web Barbados travel sites on the internet.
Later, when Emma decided to explore Australia with Elliott, she decided
to learn to design
web sites herself - and
now teaches Macromedia Dreamweaver to anyone, like herself, who wants
to maintain their own web site/s. Since 2003
Emma has offered a
unique course
- teaching the basics of Dreamweaver to complete beginners in just four hours!
While in Australia Emma applied for, and
was granted permanent residency for
herself
and her son- and is now able to live and work 'down under'- a visa such
as this is extremely hard to achieve.
Emma also offers web design and site promotion services- although she
now uses a
well qualified and trusty web design
team to undertake the design side of the business.
In 2004 Emma was appointed
as an Ofsted Inspector (Office for Standards in Education)
working in
the Nottingham City Team, assessing and reporting on Childcare and Early
Years Education (the Foundation Stage) for
the UK Education Department. Despite truly enjoying
being part of raising
standards, Emma missed the 'hands on' role,
and as being unable to continue her behaviour related services while working
within this prestigious position.
She left in 2005 to again offer 'positive behaviour change' therapy with
children and teenagers, and Child Behaviour
Strategies
was soon thriving again, with Emma successfully working with many of Nottingham's
most
challenging children and teenagers.
Emma also offered a range of life coaching services through her UK life coaching
business
Maxi Lifestyle, for example
family therapy, confidence building, relationship rescue and
weight loss solutions- following
the Dr Phil principles mixed with own
strong sense of principles relating to personal standards and behaviour,
backed up by her own strong sense of
self-belief, and inner confidence.
Emma decided that she wished to undertake Post Graduate study, and in
2005
and 2006
achieved
qualifications in Behaviour Management, Personal Social and Emotional
Development and also
Counselling and Helping Skills.
Emma became interested in Phono-Graphix after undertaking
a
Dyslexia module, within a Masters
Degree Course,
in Special Educational Needs
(Nottingham University) where she became increasingly interested in 'why' some children
finding learning to read and spell easier than others!
Her Read Australia web site now offers help and support to children, parents
and teachers across Australia. Although Emma is a certified PG therapist
she does not offer, nor does she intend to offer PG courses and workshops in the future. Read Australia simply offers free sueful advice to parents interested in Phonics
Despite having a thriving
Life Coaching and Child Behaviour Consultancy business in the UK, Emma decided in September
of 2006
to
experience living in Spain for six months, with the intention of enabling
herself and
her son to learn another language
and to
experience
yet another culture!
Emma has also being asked to allow the BBC to film her sessions with a family
undertaking behaviour change therapy,
however she decided to move further afield and undertake her
most ambitious and exciting venture to date!
Emma completed post graduate studies, achieving a
'Master of Special Needs,
and emigrated to Australia!
She now resides on the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia- where her
business Hartnell-Baker Consultancy is thriving- and sucessfully helping a range of children, teenagers and adults to
'Create the Life they want!'
One of her proudest accomplishments was the creation of ' Fertility Choices'-
for 3 years she has helped women and infertile couples become pregnant using private sperm donors and, now settled in Australia, has embarked on an ambitious journey - helping
infertile women connect with egg donors, offering links to surrogacy
and adoption programmes.....assisted parenthood for all!
Emma has also been named The Chid Listener- following her considerable successes
working with even the most 'difficult' of children and teenagers.
Please visit The-Child-Listener.com - request child and teenage behaviour workshops in Queensland and Sydney- with an emphasis on the development of emotional intelligence.
Emma is now enrolled in a Research prgoram at Griffith University, and will
undertake a Doctorate in Education
Hartnell-Baker-Consultancy offer a range of life changing solutions
- empowering adults, parents and teachers!
A Message From Emma

Emma
Hartnell-Baker BEd Hons, MA, Cert Life Coaching
"I
am passionate about people, and in helping people to be happy
and to learn
to communicate more effectively
with one another.
I teach people how to listen to other people (with their
hearts as well as their ears!)- and recognise
that how that person actually feels, and what they really want, doesn't
always
tally with what's coming out of their mouths!
I work through a really wide range of issues and problems with people
so that they find
their own answers- and find
ways to behave and just 'be' in the world that help them to
feel good
about themselves, and become a
small part of a better world.
Live life as though you really mean it!
I help parents and teachers learn to listen to children, and to understand
the reasons
behind undesirable behaviour- rather that to focus on the actual behaviour itself-
so that solutions are most effective, and also work long term!
My approach is to find ways to work WITH children rather than creating conflict, and
trying to 'control' situations, or to actually try and control your child.
Controlling people wont get you what you want - and only creates resentment. So lets work
out alternative solutions- calmer, less stressful and more loving ones!
I focus on the bigger picture.. and creating amazing families and relationships.
I
ask myself and my clients.......
- is what I am about to say going
to bring me closer to this
person, or push me further away?
Am
I making this decision out of fear or out of inspiration?
Would I rather be right, or get what I want from this relationship?
Am I taking responsibility for MY part in this situation?
What is it costing me to be in this relationship?
If the answer is your dreams, identity, or dignity, the cost is too high.
So hello and welcome
to Hartnell-Baker Consultancy in
Queensland Australia!
Life is for living, and I think sometimes we can
